How can new drivers stay safe while driving at night?

One advice I would give new drivers to help navigate the road safely at night is to use high beams when appropriate. 

On open roads and in rural areas, they can prove to be a real difference-maker. If you’re on an open road with no car ahead of you, make sure you turn them on to clearly see the road ahead. 

Just remember to dim them when you’re within 500 feet of a vehicle in the same lane, lest you temporarily blind the other driver through their rearview mirror. If you’re driving on a two-way lane, dim the lights as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle.
