Why Health Insurance Is Vital for College Students
Why is it important for college students to have health insurance?
Why do you think it is important for college students, like myself, to have health insurance while attending school, considering the various aspects of student health and wellness, financial stability, and educational success?
Answer
It is sometimes hard to convince college students that they need health insurance when they have no chronic health conditions, and money is so tight. However, I still always recommend that students get at least some form of health insurance, if not more, in case of major medical accidents. There is never a way to predict when you will be hit by a car or have a tree fall on you. College is also a very stressful time, and having access to mental health services will come in handy, even if you don't think you will need them now.
Additionally, chronic diseases have to start at some point (I was first diagnosed with both high blood pressure and plantar fasciitis at 18 while in college), so having insurance coverage can assist with unexpected medical costs. Having some protection from financial burdens can greatly help. Your physical health is greatly tied to your mental health, so ensuring that you take care of your physical body will help you do better academically.
